What to See In Rajasthan
|
Rajasthan has some of the best palaces in the country. The popular tourist destinations include Amer Palace, Durbar Hall, Jantar Mantar, Bagore Ki-Haveli and Jag Mandir. The Amer fort in Jaipur is a stunning 16th century red sand stone structure. The construction was started by Raja Man Singh and was completed by Sawai Maharaja Jai Singh. The fort is unique and incorporates a blend of Mughal and Hindu architecture. The Durbar Hall is a majestic venue for weddings and banquets at the Fateh Prakash Palace in Udaipur. The Crystal gallery is housed at the first floor of the Durbar Hall. The Jantar Mantar is a collection of astronomical instruments devised by Maharaja Jai Singh II. There were a total of 5 observatories constructed in different location of which the Jaipur observatory is the biggest. The Bagore Ki-Haveli is an 18th century palace located on the waterfront of Lake Pichola. The palace has over hundred rooms and features intricate mirror worked interiors. The Jag Mandir is a 17th century island palace on the Lake Pichola. This three storey marble and sandstone structure served as the hiding place for Shah Jahan during the period when he revolted against his father.
Pichola Lake in Udaipur derives it’s forename from the Village Pichola that submerged beneath it. The Lake is 4 km long and 3 km wide. The Pichola Lake encircles the Jag Mandir and also the Jag Niwas Island. The lake has an aura of serenity about it which you can experience with a moonlit cruise. City Palace looms large over the famous Pichola Lake. The construction and architecture of the palace was initiated by Maharana Uday Singh but the later Maharanas added many other inputs to it. The final structure is a complex labyrinth yet surprisingly uniform in architecture.
Crystal Gallery is in Fateh Prakash Palace and houses a vast collection of stunning crystals. These were ordered from F & C Osler England by Maharana Sajjan Singh. The crystal-ware on display includes tables, sofas, dressers, fountains and even beds. The gallery also houses a fine jewel studded carpet.
